BIOSAFOR Annual Meeting in Hohenheim (Germany)

May 14, 2009 - Stuttgart, Germany - Scientist from Asia and Europe met in Hohenheim to investigate the potential contribution of saline wastelands to the increasing need of bio fuels and biomaterials

The three days workshop from May 12 to 14 in Hohenheim reviewed the first two years of research of the BIOSAFOR project and set the first steps towards implementation and dissemination of the research findings.

The meeting was inaugurated with an open colloquium on Tuesday morning (12.05.2009) sketching the playing field of biosaline agro forestry from salt tolerance mechanisms of plants to praxis examples from around the globe. During the three days meeting the scientists also had the opportunity to grasp an idea of the work of Hohenheim University and visit its experimental bio-energy plantations at Ihinger Hof. The participants agreed to prolongue the project until May 2010 and to disseminate the research findings of the project in a workshop at the end of the project in 2010.

The project involves research institutes from Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Germany, The Netherlands and Spain as well as the International Centre for Biosaline Agriculture.
