Colorado Delta project

The core of this agrosaline project in the Colorado River Delta is the reclamation of saline wastelands by biosaline agroforestry. Initiator and organizer is Ocean Desert Enterprises (ODE) in close cooperation with the Ejido Luis Encinas Johnson and the Mexican organizations Pronatura and Saline Seed Mexico.

Large dams have been constructed in the Colorado River during the 20th century. The water was tapped for the growing populations of cities like Las Vegas and agricultural areas like the Imperial Valley. This has left the southern part of the Mexican Colorado Delta with freshwater shortages and marginalized agriculture.
Water scarcity and a big sea-water flood during the eighties have affected the agricultural zone of the Ejido Luis Encinas Johnson. The greater part of their lands was salinized and conventional freshwater agriculture was no longer possible. This is the area where the project is being developed.
