Partners

The consortium consists of 9 universities and research institutes from The Netherlands, Bangladesh, Germany, India, Pakistan, Spain and the United Arab Emirates. The OASE Foundation is responsible for the overall coordination of the research project. Copernicus Institute of Utrecht University is responsible for the scientific coordination of the project. The International Centre for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA) is coordinating the work in Bangladesh, India and Pakistan. Here a short description of all partners:

OASE Organisation for Agriculture in Saline Environments
The Organisation for Agriculture in Saline Environments (OASE) was established in 2004 as a non-profit foundation. Its mission is to encourage further developments in biosaline agro-forestry by raising the salinity problem to global awareness, showing the power of biosaline solutions and building coalitions between public and private partners.

Utrecht Universiteit Copernicus Institute for Sustainable Development The COPERNICUS Institute for Sustainable Development and Innovation covers the fields of energy research, environmental science, policy studies and innovation management and holds some 90 research staff.

ICBA International Centre for Biosaline Agriculture
The International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA) is an applied research center located in Dubai, UAE. Its mission is to develop and promote the use of sustainable agricultural systems that use saline water to grow crops.

ACACIA Institute
The Acacia Institute “for solutions in groundwater” is a self-supporting foundation associated with the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (Faculty of Earth and Life Sciences). Within the university Acacia has strong relations with relevant areas of expertise such as geology, catchment hydrology, bio-geochemistry and water technology, but also economy, resource management and communication. 

BARI Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute The Bangladesh Agricultural research Institute (BARI) is presently the largest Agricultural Research Institute in the country. The total manpower is 2,610 and consists of 616 scientists, 74 officers and 1920 staff. 

Agri-Food Research and Technological Center of Aragón, Spain (CITA)
The Department of Soils and Irrigation (CITA-DGA) is directed by Dr. Ramón Aragüés and forms a research group of twelve research scientists and about 18 graduate students and technicians. The Department was established in 1980 and has been conducting research on irrigation, soils, environmental impacts (salts and nitrates) and agronomy for the last 24 years. 

Central Soil Salinity Research Institute –India (CSSRI) The Central soil Salinity Research Institute (CSSRI), a part of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) system, was established in 1969 as a follow up to the recommendations of an Indo-American expert group on water management. 

Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC)
Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) is the apex agricultural research organization at the national level. Its main objective is to strengthen Pakistan's agricultural research system, comprising the federal and provincial components. 

Universität Hohenheim, Institute for Soil Science and Land Evaluation (UHOH) The University of Hohenheim has a long tradition in tropical agriculture and natural resources management. The research of about 20 institutes is coordinated by the Centre for Agriculture in the Tropics and Subtropics including microbiology, landscape ecology, plant and animal production, plant and animal breeding, agricultural engineering, agricultural economics and social sciences.
